How to troubleshoot wired cat 5 cat 6 etc network connections.
Cat5e wall jack not working.
If the wall jacks are using the more standard wire colors you have the brown and orange pairs swapped.
You should have one pair on pins 1 and 2 another on pins 3 and 6 another on pins 4 and 5 and the last on pins 7 and 8.
The cat5 wall jacks are just like the power outlets in your house.
The cables are not terminated or connected to a switch thus all of the additional wall jacks are a dead end.
So i live in a new house we moved into it about 5 months ago when i say new i mean it s just build around 2 3 years ago the original owner put in a ethernet wall jack in each room they each consist of cat5 cat5e and coxial jacks now i pulled the backing off and they are all connected to yellow cables and blue cables ethernet cables now i went into my basement and found the yellow.
The cables that are inside the walls have to go some where and be connected to something in order for them to work.
A cat 5e cable is made up of four pairs.
Troubleshooting a cat 6 or cat 5 network connection from the network switch to the data outlet and or computer can sometimes be very frustrating even for an experienced professional.
Each jack should have a cable that is running to a central location.
